As promised, here is the before and after reveal I first told you about last week. After a year of looking at this nasty medicine cabinet every day, I decided it was time to rip and replace! Jared was busy playing X-Box at the time, so I took it upon myself to remove the old mirrored cabinet and dream up a fresh solution using mostly all materials we already had in the house.
Here's the ugly before; (note the ugly rust stain on the bottom!)
And here is a photo of what was exposed when I removed the cabinet. A perfect canvas to create something new!
Remember how much I love the concept of open storage? Well, I convinced Jared to put down the X-Box controller and try sawing something other than "Locust Horde" (don't act like you ladies haven't caught your guy playing Gears of War 2). He was quick to jump onboard when I explained my idea... I think it had something to do with the fact that he saw an opportunity to buy a new saw at Home Depot. So after a quick trip to the hardware store to get a few materials and a week of measuring, cutting, gluing, nailing, painting, and lots of dusting, we created this!
Open storage in the bathroom:
We used drywall that was leftover from a previous improvement project and reused the glass shelves from the old mirrored cabinet. The only new materials that we had to buy included the trim to frame our the drywall and the cove trim to support the shelves. (Which together cost under $15)
We painted the sides and trim in a white semi-gloss but used Benjamin Moore's Yarmouth Blue (which is the wall color in the bathroom) on the back to make it look as if it's been there forever. Not only does this remodel look better... it makes grabbing q-tips and cotton balls a breeze! Hmmm.... what's next on the agenda? I'm seeing a new mirror and lights in this room in the near future!!!
